Culture in Greater Asia

Contemporary Art | In January 2014, British collectors David and Serenella Ciclitira created a new award that stands out among the many prizes in the global art ecosystem. Based in Singapore, the Prudential Eye Award has reactivated and redefined the notion of Greater Asia in global time via a selection platform for a new wave of artists originating from countries as diverse as Russia, China, Korea, Japan, Indonesia and Australia. The aim is to create links and bridges between Greater Asia and the UK by moving beyond State power. Among the nominees were Pussy Riot with their video : « Punk Prayer : Mother of God, put Putin away ». The winner of each category receives a sum of 20,000. Ben Quilty won the top prize : £30,000 and an exhibition at the Saatchi gallery, which renders networks openly accessible to emerging artists from around the world.
