How does an artist work with artificial intelligence ?

Contemporary Art | As Christie’s auctioned for the first time (October 2018) a painting created using artificial intelligence by a French collective called Obvious, the magic expression is on every mouth. What is art by artificial intelligence?
Art by artificial intelligence is the heir of the generative art that emerged at the time of the electronic revolution. Today’s programs find their sources in the feedback systems that are at the heart of electronics and with which artists have been working for more than fifty years.

Artificial intelligence as an artistic medium

In response to the developments of electronics in the 1960s, artists integrated randomness into the work of art’s process. In 1959, Jean Tinguely developed his meta-matics, drawing machines where the drawing process is entrusted to the machine (1).

In 1968, Vera Molnar developed her first computer-assisted drawings, where the machine draws from the program created by the artist.
