Art critique 3.0: back to the origin?

Analysis out of the boxContemporary Art | For a long time now art critique has been loosing its terrain. One of the reasons is that the curator or artistic programmer has taken over the power of the critic. The critic who was an important figure in the selection of art and artists has been abandoned and now fades into the background.

Furthermore art critique is confronted with the reality of super-diversity that increasingly marks our societies. Art critique is partly based on the figure of a prominent author who represent a certain tradition and who make judgements about works of art within his or her specific reference frame. This responsibility of interpreting and judging has shifted more towards that of the ’consumers’ or ’clients’. Everyone is asked to interpret and to provide a judgement or opinion. Everybody became a critic. We no longer accept a strong authority.
