A collections festival in Moscow

Contemporary Art | The notion of collections is key to a dedicated festival which has taken place in Moscow for the past seven years. The Festival of Contemporary Art Collections organised by the Moscow CNAC and founded by Alina Fedorovitch seeks to explore private, company and artist collections as well as institutional collections. Since its creation, emphasis has been placed on the diversity of contemporary Russian collections : Tsaritsino Museum, Kolodzei Art Foundation, Center for Arts and Culture MediaArtLab, Igor Markin, Sergey Shutov, Vadim Zakharov, Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art... Two conclusions can thus be drawn : in Russia, collections are essential to the concept of contemporary art (a work of art exists within a collection), and the multi-faceted nature of a collection takes precedence over the universality so prized in the west.
