Prospective: redrawing the cultural map of France
Contemporary Art | Catherine Grenier, formerly a candidate for the directorship of the Centre Pompidou, today director of the Fondation Giacometti, opens the debate in France with an opinion column published in Le Monde on 9/11/14 laying out her vision of the museum reform necessary to restore France’s cultural influence and visibility on the global stage, where the cultural stakes are strategic objectives (construction of over 1000 private museums in China). An analysis that proposes a redistribution of the map with : 1) a museum of 20th century art at the Centre Pompidou, 2) a prospective museum of 21st century art at the Palais de Tokyo, 3) a reflection on globalization at the Palais de la Porte Dorée, 4) increased regional/European collaboration.
